Bishop Deogracias Iñiguez, Jr. D.D.


Bishop Deogracias Iñiguez, Jr., the first Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kalookan, was born on December 10, 1940 in Cotabato City, southern Philippines. He was ordained a priest in December 23, 1963. He was appointed auxiliary bishop of Malolos on July 03, 1985. He was ordained bishop on August 22, 1985. On December 29, 1989, he was appointed Bishop of Iba in Zambales province, and installed on March 3, 1990. He was appointed Bishop of Kalookan on June 28, 2003. He was installed on August 22, 2003. His motto is "Totius Servus Christi" (Servant of all Christ).

Educational Background
He studied elementary at Salunayan Elementary School (1947-1949) and St. Mary's Academy (1949-1952) in Meycauayan, Bulacan province. He entered the Our Lady of Guadalupe Minor Seminary (1952-1956, high school) and San Carlos Seminary (1956-1964, theology) in Makati City. He finished his Bachelor of Science in Education (1964-1968) at the Pontifical University of Santo Tomas in Manila.

Previous Ministries
He was professor at the Immaculate Conception Seminary (1964-1985) treasurer of the Diocese of Malolos (1970); parish priest of San Marcos Parish in Calumpit, Bulacan province (1971-1972); rector of the Immaculate Conception Seminary (1972-1974) in the same diocese; chancellor of Malolos diocese (1980); Apostolic Visitator of High School Seminaries in the Philippines (1982); parish priest of the National Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima (1984).
He also served as board member of the Center for Agrarian Reform and Rural Development (CARRD); member of the National Ecumenical Consultative Committee (NECCOM); member of the Mount Pinatubo Assistance, Resettlement and Development Commission; adviser on livelihood of the Bishop's Businessmen Conference (BBC); chairman of Interfaith in Action; co-Chairman of the Ecumenical Bishop's Forum (EBF); and consultant bishop of the Tagalog Regional Liturgical Commissions. In the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), he served as member of the Episcopal Commission on Ecumenical Affairs (1985-2004); chairman of the Episcopal Commission on Ecumenism; and treasurer of the bishops' conference. He was also a member of the Federation of Asian Bishops' Conferences Office of Ecumeical and Interreligious Affairs.

Current Ministry
He is chairman of the CBCP Permanent Committee on Public Affairs, a position he has been holding since 2003.
